Trading Avatar Stickers [Korea, My Life, Teaching] — Wyatt @ 20:56 pm

Wow! She

Another month in the can! Well I’ve cleared the month of November at work, and this month I’ve discovered the the secret of teaching my E1 class. I’ve decieved them into learning! Woohoo! For the past few months they have become increasing disinterested in education in general and English in specific. That was until I found an “Avatar Sticker” on the floor in my classroom, and used it to decieve them. For those unaware of what these stickers are they look like this…(see picture somewhere on this page).

Anyhow in my class the girls are all about trading these things and one day I busted out the one I discovered and commenced to trade with them. Following this, the girls started to pay attention in class and actually learned. It was amazing! Yesterday my E1 and E2 classes took what boiled down to the same exam. My E1 class is a beginner class or as Darrell and I so lovingly call it, a dumb class. My E2 is allegedly the best class in the school. Yet, my E1 class missed 0 questions while my E2 class got a grand total of 10 questions correct without my assistance. My E1 class even had hard language arts questions that required actual memorization (past tense), while my E2 had the easy task of taking two short sentences and combining them into a more complex sentence (”I rode down the trail.” + “I rode on a donkey.” = “I rode down the trail on a donkey.”) which they were unable to sucessfully complete. If I can’t find a means by which to fool those kids into learning, I don’t know what I’ll do. One girl in that class pays attention, but that’s only because I think she has a crush on me. The others are not all about it, so I don’t know what the crap to do with them.

Ghosts of Apartment’s Past [Korea, My Life] — Wyatt @ 20:51 pm

The ghost of apartment’s past paid a visit to work today…er some teacher who use to work at Kids College paid said school a visit today. Anyhow she use to dwell in my apartment, so I decided to question her on the utterly insane amount of kitchenware in my homestead. She told me she wondered the same thing, as she did not purchase anything for the kitchen at all…which if true means I bought more than she did with my 1,000 won hand-held grill I purchased. Anyhow that’s about it…oh and Dave resigned today. I don’t know if either Darrell or I win the beat on departure, but we win in terms of I’m sure we will get some good treatment as we are the only teachers who haven’t been up in arms and quit…perhaps it’s time to request a “yo we haven’t quit yet” raise…eh eh eh. Anyhow that about does it, since it’s time to watch Nonstop on television. Peace out yo!

Porno Dave [Korea, My Life, Teaching] — Wyatt @ 21:36 pm

I’m sick…but that’s quite alright after the event I bore witness to today at work. This month we are suppose to work on a play that each class will present for their parents. Being in charge of the “baby” class has some adventages as well as disadventages. The adventage is that no one, parents, bosses, students, or me expect much out of the kids. The disadventage is the students can’t even live up to these massively lowered standards. However all of this is incidental in the tale in which I’m about to lay down. The new teacher, aka “Fat Teacher,” aka “The Actor,” aka “Dave,” is by trade an actor of some sort. Therefore he’s all about this using this play thing to make himself look good, so he’s got all kinds of crazy plans and such…anyhow today he came in with a pile of CDs to give to the kids. I don’t know exactally how these CDs worked, but in theory, they allowed the students to practice at home. Anyhow, apparentally some porno got onto some quantity of the CD, which Andrea discovered prior to the distribution, which is at least a positive thing. Dave claimed ignorance on the matter, which may or may not have been true, but to Darrell and I it doesn’t matter…Dave will never live down his “Porno Dave” title for the rest of his or our stay in Korea. In related hard core smut news, tomorrow my class is taking a field trip to KBS studios (a television station here in Korea), with any luck I can make this week the week I meet too many Korean celebrities. Tomorrow we shall see.

Matrix 3: An Exercise in Lameness… [Korea, My Life, Movies] — Wyatt @ 23:32 pm

I saw Matrix 3 today with Reese. It was kind of fun, but mostly due to the fact they in the film they bellowed every catchphrase my kindergarten students have (with the exception of “Gabby my pushing!”). Anyhow it was kind of alright. Where the first one was all about bellowing, “What the fuck is going on? His name is Neo and not Neil?” This one was just about showing some throw downs. Apparently it doesn’t matter if you’ve seen the second part either, cuz after like the first 10 minutes or so in which they have some plot to close up from the second part, the remainder of the flick is a big fight scene…like Return of the Jedi, only with more scuzzy looking dudes and less Ewoks rompin’ ass! Anyhow this weekend Darrell and I are going to a rock concert to try and get some rocker girls, so I gots to get my rock gear ready.
