Another month in the can! Well I’ve cleared the month of November at work, and this month I’ve discovered the the secret of teaching my E1 class. I’ve decieved them into learning! Woohoo! For the past few months they have become increasing disinterested in education in general and English in specific. That was until I found an “Avatar Sticker” on the floor in my classroom, and used it to decieve them. For those unaware of what these stickers are they look like this…(see picture somewhere on this page).
Anyhow in my class the girls are all about trading these things and one day I busted out the one I discovered and commenced to trade with them. Following this, the girls started to pay attention in class and actually learned. It was amazing! Yesterday my E1 and E2 classes took what boiled down to the same exam. My E1 class is a beginner class or as Darrell and I so lovingly call it, a dumb class. My E2 is allegedly the best class in the school. Yet, my E1 class missed 0 questions while my E2 class got a grand total of 10 questions correct without my assistance. My E1 class even had hard language arts questions that required actual memorization (past tense), while my E2 had the easy task of taking two short sentences and combining them into a more complex sentence (”I rode down the trail.” + “I rode on a donkey.” = “I rode down the trail on a donkey.”) which they were unable to sucessfully complete. If I can’t find a means by which to fool those kids into learning, I don’t know what I’ll do. One girl in that class pays attention, but that’s only because I think she has a crush on me. The others are not all about it, so I don’t know what the crap to do with them.
