Some Truth In a Stereotype
And now for something that could only happen in Korea…
SEOUL, (AFP) - Three South Korean dog meat lovers were facing a 70,000-dollar lawsuit after cooking and eating their employer’s pedigree dog, a news report said.
Two Jindo puppies. Three South Korean dog meat lovers were facing a 70,000-dollar lawsuit after cooking and eating their employer’s pedigree dog(AFP/File)The men, all in their 50s and employed at a car-hire firm, killed and served up the dog in a traditional Korean soup dish during the employer’s absence from the company parking lot where the animal was tethered, Yonhap news agency reported.
The owner said he would sue the three, claiming the dog was a Jindo, an expensive Korean pedigree breed, the news agency said. Police were also investigating the case.
Dog soup, or Boshintang, is a Korean delicacy served over the summer season.
Though I personally have not consumed dog meat, I see nothing wrong with it. There’s no difference between eating meat from a dog raised to be food, and eating beef from a cow raise to be food. Yes people in the western world keep dogs as pets, so most people will be disgusted by the fact that these guys consumed dog. Well Hindus hold cows to be sacred but that doesn’t stop us in the west from consuming beef. Different strokes for different folks. What I have a problem with is the way in which these assclowns obtained their meat. Like I said to eat dog meat raised to be consumed is one thing, but to steal a pet is another matter entirely. Not only did these buffoons cause the dogs owners the pain of losing family members, but because this made it into international news, these three morons helped to perpetuate the myth that all Koreans eat dogs (most don’t), and in order to satiate this need they will steal peoples pets and kill them. Good job guys! Your country doesn’t have a bad enough reputation yet?

Pancake Party In A Small Town
I think I’m coming down with a cold (which sucks much ass). Anyhow yesterday my pink class (the highest level class at Big Tree) made pancakes which was awesome, because we therefore did no real work. Anyhow the kids really enjoyed it, as did their parents. One kid lived in a larger area, and recently moved to Goyang-shi, had attended a different hagwon for like 3 years. Anyhow his mother came to pick him up and was most impressed with the creation of pancakes. All of these factors combined lead me to request future cooking adventures in class, a request which was granted. Now I need to find some simple recipies for kids to cook (since there is no oven, only a gas range).

The Money Will Roll Right In
So yesterday after work (7:00) I went to some random subway station (숭실대) to meet my new private students. They are a pair of women (30, and middle aged) who Andrea from Kid’s College recomended me to. Their speaking is not that great, but that’s alright, as it’s easier to teach beginners I think. They will notice improvement fairly quickly as opposed to U-rim, who was already pretty good at English and therefore doesn’t think she is improving, because her improvement at this point is a lot more gradual.
I will meet them again on Saturday and then it’s off to my other students. Saturday is shaping up to be a busy day.

Boromir
It’s raining like mad mardagen outside, so this afternoon I spent my time watching The Two Towers (not the one pictured below, though that would own) on DVD (finally…I bought it months ago, and never watched it). Good flick, but because of watching it, I’m probably going to purchase the other films in the trilogy tomorrow. I was never a big movie guy (I prefered tunes to flicks), but I’m starting to acquire more and more films.
I’ve realized that DVDs and music have become like baseball cards…something I collect, but rarely use. Whatever.
Oh my hot water heater was broken today…so I took a cold shower, which is always lovely. Anyhow, I watched Two Towers and waited for some guy to come and repair my hot water heater…only to have U-rim phone me that the heater was now repaired….from afar…WTF?! Somehow it is now possible to repair a hot water heater without touching it. It wasn’t bs either, I now have hot water….
Christ alive…

An Afterschool Special
Yesterday U-rim called me fat (again), so I told her I was going to stop eating….and like the female lead in an afterschool special, I did just that. Kind of. Today I’ve consumed two small bread rolls, and some snack thing that has peanuts….and that’s it. I have a new found respect for anorexic people…they have a lot of will power, you gotta give them that. Anyhow, I’ll probably eat some real food this evening anyhow, and tomorrow…well it’s the weekend so I’ll probably eat too much…but I’ve decided I’m giving up alcohol…fuck! Without alcohol there’s nothing to do in this country!

고구마 피자
Koreans put a lot of sketchy stuff on pizza, and up until now I have not documented any of it (probably because I don’t eat pizza that often). Anyhow, this was tonight’s dinner, 고구마 pizza. What’s 고구마 you ask. Well loyal reader, 고구마 is the Korean word for a sweet potato. You see those cheese stick looking things on the pizza? That’s mashed sweet potato which has been put on the pizza.

The Meeting Which Never Occured…
Well I’m currently at work awaiting a meeting which I don’t think is going to go down. Additionally, my phone is broken, leaving me unable to make a call and see if my thoughts are right. Anyhow, this morning while showering I realized that there is an adaptor at work that allows US still plugs to be plugged into Korean outlets safely, so I brought my dead Gameboy in to charge up the internal battery. The thing had been sitting in my room dead, collecting dust for nearly 6 months…so I figured what the hell, I ride subways and buses a lot more. I can’t read and study on the bus…might as well start playing some Gameboy. Anyhow I’m becoming mad hungry, as I did not eat breakfast today either. So if employers don’t arrive in 15 minutes, I’m going to buy myself some lunch. Peace out.

Back to Work
Well today I go back to work for real. I’m thinking that today will be a long day. Now I’ve become used to getting home at 2 or 4…today I’m going to get home around 6. Anyhow it will be good to get back to work, as yesterday I downloaded entirely too many randomly weird tunes…and recorded my own. So getting out of the house for awhile will be a good thing. I kind of want to go on a vacation somewhere in Korea, but U-rim doesn’t have time, and I don’t really want to go on my own…soloing travel is boring, and at times depressing, so for the time being that plan will have to go on the back burner. Well, I’m off to the office…perhaps my package of birthday presents will arrive!
:P
