I was unaware of the fact that Chow Yun-Fat (周潤發 / 주윤발) could speak Korean. You were too? Well he can, and he does, here in this 1989 commercial for that most insane of all junk food, Milkis. For those not in the know, Milkis is a carbonated milk beverage, that tastes surprisingly good. Anyhow if you like Hong Kong action stars, the 1980s, helicopters, the Korean language, and carbonated milk beverages, definately check this commercial out.

Oh, I remember this ad, and I remember Chow Yun Fat, long before I next saw him in Anna and the King.
It didn’t make me like Milkis any better, but I liked Chow Yun Fat.

Well there you have it. The next time I’m hooning down the highway and a helicopter is chasing me, I’ll hide in the trailer of a truck.
I don’t know where they find the pilots though. You’d think the helicopter pilot would have dropped a payload, or at least shot the trailer up a bit.

peemil,
I’m guessing that it was just the KBS traffic copter after him, but being the man of action that he is, had to make things more exciting by jumping into the truck.

kangmi,
I think you missed the point, which is understandable since you’re a Korean living in Korea. When Americans think of Chow Yun Fat, they don’t think of him in the movie, “Anna and the King.” Rather, his old Hong KOng shoot’em up, slapstick movies where guns and machine guns never needed reloading. After a gun fight scene, you get a room full of dead bad guys, and the good guys have enough rounds to kill another room full of bad guys. His newer movies intended for the West, Replacement Killer, Anna and the King, Bullet Proof Monk were all utter failures in the box office.
As far as the helicopter chase scene is concerned, I believe it is an imitation of David Hasselhoff’s Knight Rider, a popular TV serie from ealy 1980s.

William things kangmi is a “Korean living in Korea.” That’s funny considering she is an “American living in America.”

That was so weird seeing Chow Yun Fat like that. Interesting though. Like the stuff you post too - kind of a nice break from other K-blogs that focus from the politics…
