During a brief period during which I lacked anything remotely related to focus or clarity, I drafted this illustration (which shared a page with a drawing of a pilgrim giving a Native American small pox for some reason). Anyhow I guess this deal is about common cultural misconceptions or some nonsense like that. Basically in the USA a large percentage of the population wrongly assume that every Asian person is Chinese, and in Korea a large percentage of the population wrongly assumes that every white person is American…or Robin Williams.
I’m busy today, so it was this or nothing.

I liked that cartoon. You made a very valid point. But above all, I loved the sharp teeth there on the Canadian woman. She looks very evil. (No, I’m not Canuck-bashing, being from the frozen north myself. Come to think of it, should have made here a Kiwi. The anecdotes about Kiwis in Korea seem to be in a class of their own.)

I wanted to portray the flag waving, “I’m so not American,” aspect. Canadians are involved in that kind of behavior with greater frequency than Kiwis.

Tell me about it. It’s bad enough here in Canada—I can imagine what they’re like when they get to Korea!

Shoulda drawn her holding a can of Molson’s. It goes together with kneejerk Canadian nationalism like light draws moths or s*** attracts flies…. (OMG, am I trolling for flames or what!?)

When we were leaving Duksugong that one day a group of students were waiting outside. I remember them bellowing “bonjour” and “zdravstvuite” at us before they finally said “hello.” Although that wasn’t typical.
